HALF EMPTY
An experimental 2D animated short film about gender, mental health, and getting yourself help.
Set to the song "Simplest Words" by the Narcissist Cookbook.
This is the making of my short film “Half Empty’ coming out Mid-October.
Preproduction
Organization was key in this production. It was all volunteer based and I had some amazing artists offer their time! That time needed to be honored and I wanted to set me and my team up for success.
Shot List
Keeping shots organized was imperative to keeping production running smoothly.
I made this spreadsheet to keep me and my crew up to speed. Here’s a snapshot of what the film looked like Mid-Production.
All of the buttons are drop downs for ease of production tracking. There’s also a tracker at the bottom to see how far along each part of the pipeline was. Each scene was color coded along with each part of the pipeline. Color coding spreadsheets is one of my new favorite hobbies!

LAYOUT
Storyboards were done extremely quickly to get the vague idea out and nothing more. Layouts were imperative in making sure everything was on model.
I handled all layouts for background artists and animators. I also did all of the storyboards, but those aren’t as pretty.
